![]() Have you ever heard about the 7-year itch? It’s a popular belief that couples experience a dip in their relationship around the seventh year of their marriage or long-term commitment. Understanding the Concept of the 7 Year Itch In this article, we’ll dive into what the 7-year itch is, what causes it, and how to overcome it to keep your relationship strong and fulfilling. Although it’s not a scientific concept, it’s a real and common experience for many couples. This phenomenon is commonly known as the “7-year itch”. But making time to prioritize your relationship and partner will change your relationship for the better. Are you experiencing a sense of discontentment in your relationship now that you’ve reached the 7-year mark? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. This isn’t all to say nice dates will heal the pressure that the last two years have put on your relationship. We have some planned dates and some spontaneous dates, and we feel like we’re able to enjoy one another’s company as a family and as a couple. So once a month my husband and I have a day date, and we alternate Fridays and Sundays as our “family day.” Our work schedules are more regular, and we can keep a family calendar. At the beginning of the pandemic, our youngest was 4 months old, but now the boys are 4 and 2 years old and have (mostly) regular childcare. At this point, I’m still disappointed that we have to live through a pandemic, but I’m glad we have been able to stay grounded in the goals we set for our relationship and family. It wasn’t always easy for me or my husband to process how these new roles changed me and our lives although the changes were good, they were hard to manage at a time when everything else was changing too. However, living through 2020 was particularly disruptive for me as a new business owner and mother of two, and it took me awhile to adjust. It was an unexpected curveball of parenthood and I’ve learned that, pandemic or not, it happens to most couples. ![]() Having two under age 2 was hard but also helped us learn how to work better together and how to steal time until we could make time. There were times our relationship suffered because we didn’t know how to prioritize it once we had children. Having uninterrupted time to talk or even problem solve with my spouse went to the bottom of our growing to-do lists. Having kids takes a lot of energy and focus, especially if they’re 20 months apart. ![]() ![]() ![]() Any time you have a baby, you and your partner change. I started a new business in 2019, just before I had our second baby. In spite of that, we feel lucky to have weathered the financial, emotional, and social storms of this time together. I can say that truthfully and honestly because we’re now on the other side of those stressors. These years have been stressful, and it’s been difficult to juggle the demands of our relationship with our children and careers. We’ve spent the last two years in a pandemic - and in and out of quarantine with two very young children. This year my husband and I will be married for seven years. We start marriages with the promise of forever, knowing that is not meant for every marriage. Choosing to stay in a relationship and love someone through years of change is pretty incredible. While I don’t consider getting married an accomplishment, I have come to consider staying married an accomplishment. ![]() ![]() ![]() Neutral tones will always be timeless even when styles change.ĭisplaying your images just got easier. Remember a few years ago when the bright bubble necklaces were a big fad? Everyone wore them. Still not a fan? Choose a muted color like a blue or a pink and stick to that color as the staple for your photos coordinating neutrals for the other members of your family. If white isn’t your favorite, try a grey or a tan. I totally understand that some people believe they don’t look good in white because of their skin tone, however, I am a firm believer that everyone can look good in a neutral color. I always love having neutral bases for large families and throwing in one accent color (whether it’s with bows, a little girl's dress, mom’s jewelry, etc.) to tie things together. If you have a family of six and you are trying to color coordinate clothes for your session, it is so much trickier to match color hues than it is to match neutrals and one pop of color. ![]() I also recommend avoiding light-colored or ripped jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and tank-tops as they tend to not photograph as seamlessly.Neutrals are easy to coordinate. Also, avoid bold patterns if possible! Too many patterns will make your family portraits too busy. In general, it is a good idea for all family members to avoid anything with noticeable logos, graphics, neon colors, and bold prints. Here is a link to my What to Wear for Your Family Pictures blog post more ideas on dressing each individual family group. Then I move to an easier family member such as my husband, and finally my kids. I personally start with myself because as a Mom I am the most difficult to dress. Consider your family members’ skin tone and hair colors when picking out their outfits. Once you have an overall color scheme everyone is able to stick to, each family can plan their outfits accordingly. Just as long as the basic colors are consistent. Maintaining the exact shade of your three chosen colors across all of the family members isn’t necessary. Examples of a few neutral colors include white, black, khaki, grey, or blue. Often neutrals work well as the color for your pants or a jacket. When planning your three colors at least one of them needs to be a neutral that can be easily pulled in outfits. If you don’t know where to start here is my own personal What to Wear Pinterest Board. Pinterest has a TON of great ideas when it comes to color combos. The time of year and location should be considered when you are picking these colors. It’s easiest if you start by choosing a color pallet that everyone can work with. So avoid completely matching outfits for everyone! CHOOSE 3 COLORS We want each family member’s personality to show through with their outfit choice, while still being overall coordinated. ![]() ![]() While photos with the entire family in jeans and the same colored top (usually white) were popular in the past, this trend is long gone. Here are a few tips to make the process as stress-free as possible! AVOID BEING TOO MATCHY Everyone has their own sense of style and cloth of options to choose from. Coordinating what to wear for extended family photos can be difficult because you are planning multiple families wardrobes at the same time. ![]() ![]() ![]() This era also brought about the use of plays to tell stories. Scholars suggest that "The Iliad" by Homer is the oldest surviving work in the Greek language that originated from oral tradition, according to History of Information. Unfortunately, not all populations were literate, so only the educated class was able to read and write stories. The transition from oral to written culture overlapped, but is predominantly accounted for in ancient Greece, where the earliest inscriptions date from 770 to 750 B.C. The current alphabets were derived from older forms of writing, such as the Phoenician alphabet. As described above, writing began as drawings, but over time changed into script. There is evidence of written symbols that date back to about 9,000 years ago. The first written stories were manually transcribed, whether on paper, stone or clay. Traditional storytelling by word of mouth still takes place whenever a group of people get together to socialize, and it has helped to shape current studies in the field of communications. The Cherokee tribe continues to recount their creation story, although it is sometimes skewed, depending on the person telling it. For example, oral myths in the United States are most common among Native American cultures. Myths were also first passed on through word of mouth. These traditions use song, chant and epic poetry to tell stories that had been handed down from generation to generation and eventually written and published. Storytelling through oral tradition dates back to different points in history, depending on the culture. Since we are visual individuals, drawings have always been an effective way to tell others stories about survival and life. It was not only used for religious documents, but also to line tombs and temples with messages to future inhabitants. The hieroglyphic language dates back about 5,000 years and is recognized as one of the world's earliest writing systems. This form of writing utilized pictographic characters as symbols and sounds. They reflected a universal language by which all could understand and appreciate the stories told with a stick, in mud or in clay.Īnother common form of drawing used to communicate stories is the use of hieroglyphs in ancient Egypt. It has been shown that humans in all societies, even dating back to cavemen, have an inclination toward visual representations. Chauvet cave drawings were not just casual doodles, but rather art that displayed the talents of skilled craftsmen at the time. These drawings detail animals, such as deer and bison, as well as themes of survival, according to Nature Index. ![]() It is estimated that the Chauvet cave in France has drawings that date back 30,000 years. Technology has allowed humans to utilize all forms of storytelling through the years: visual stories in photographs, spoken stories in videos and recordings and written words on blogs and statuses. There was then a shift to words formed into narratives, including written, printed and typed stories.ĭue to the use of advancing technologies such as the printing press, the camera and the internet and its social media platforms, the way we tell others stories and keep ourselves informed about current topics has shifted to a more all-encompassing experience. Storytelling originated with visual stories, such as cave drawings, and then shifted to oral traditions, in which stories were passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth. Storytelling, whether factual or fictional, is an intrinsic human characteristic. However, the way we communicate with others has changed drastically over time. It is in our nature to tell stories and inform others of our life events. ![]() ![]() Step Seven: Check ‘Replace owner on subcontainers and objects’ option. NEVER LOSE A COPY AGAIN Paste is like a time machine for your clipboard. It's widely used by designers, developers, writers, lawyers, support specialists, and anyone else who wants to work better, faster, and smarter every day. Paste stores everything you copy on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad, so it's always there whenever you need it. ** I have found that if you leave the 'About Paste' window open in the background, the application continues to work as expected without quitting silently and unexpectedly. If not, I will be on the lookout for more stable alternatives. And so I am willing to give the developer more time). I hope the developers address this in the coming months (yes, despite this inconvenience, the app really shines. I have not been able to reliable reproduce the conditions under which it would unexpectedly quit. When finallyu getting to the point to utilize the clipboard manager, I find that it hasn't been running. Because I have come to rely on the clipboard history, I often won't find out until many copies in. Unfortunately, at least since Mac OS Big Sur (possibly Catalina), the application would quit unexpectedly and quietly. The shortcuts are sensible and intuitive, the UI is snappy, and it's smart enough to know not to store passwords (in many cases) in its history. I have been using this app for a number of years. And 2) I could just use the files in the history directly, so much more useful than something opaque - I get that you want ppl to use Paste as much as possible, but well. 1) as a sqlite db I'm pretty sure iCloud doesn't do partial upload of big files like Dropbox does, so it'll sync the whole DB at once every time you make a change which won't be pretty when that db file gets big - aka when you have been using Paster for a while and have a lot of clips. Also it would be tremendously better to save each clipboard entry as a single file. Even better let me choose where to put it. Now, if you really have to do that please at least label clearly "Paste's History" or something of that kind. I'm puzzled, creating a folder without asking in my Documents folder is really messy, I have a bunch of folders of my actual personal documents putting your app's folder in there is just kind of rude really. The other issue I have is that its supposed to save the clipboard and it seems it does in my iCloud Documents it creates a hidden `.Cloud` folder. When I drag'n drop an image in the Finder it does nothing, I would expect it to just drop a file with the image. In Safari - on github - I get a "This file is hidden" error when I try to drag'n drop an image from the clipboard. It seems that drag'n drop of images doesn't really work - at least for my use case. ![]() And would be nice to have ability to change sizes of snippets or have some sort of text-only option so I could see more clippings at once. Also would be great to have the option to keep the interface on screen so I’d be able to keep copying and pasting without having to open it each time. My only pieces of feedback would be to have numbers on the snippets so I don’t have to count when pasting, perhaps only when you have the direct pasting option selected. The UI is awesome and smooth and the more I use it the more the more I like it. As a designer I have my color palettes right at my fingertips all the time… it saves hex color codes as colored cards which is crazy useful and was a totally pleasant surprise. And it’s even more useful than I expected. Turns out it does do that, and those commands are customizable. It wasn’t totally clear in the description if I was able to do that, but I figured there was a good chance it would, and at least the other features would be useful. The main thing I wanted to achieve with a clipboard app was the ability to open it with a shortcut, and then immediately paste with another shortcut. ![]() |
